Lego Dimensions: Mission: Impossible Level Pack

LegoDimensions: Text

Overview:

During my time on this project I got to work on a mixture of levels, some from paper design or already blockout to box ready and others I took over after they were already at first or second pass and took them to the finish line.

This was the second project during my time at Tt Games so I was eager to put what knowledge I had learnt from the first project to good use and generally improve my skills.

The summary of my role on these levels included:

  • Working in coordination with the game design team in order to feedback and design engaging gameplay puzzles and expected time to complete its implementation

  • Blocking out levels/puzzles mechanics to test flow and pacing

  • Create 3D assets using the Lego modular building system, animate, optimse and export from Maya into the company's proprietary game engine

  • Implement assets into the levels such as game mechanics and visual scripting in order to create gameplay that builds up the levels

  • Work with other departments such as Programmers, VFX Artists, Environment Arts, In Game Cinematics and others to implement their respective elements into the level/puzzle

  • Implement “mini” cinematic camera events

  • Iterate on this process in order to make the gameplay as fun and engaging as possible

  • Bug fixing and adding any polish to ensure the best experience for the end user

This was the second full level I worked on while at Tt Games and my first level on Lego Dimensions, I was able to take this level from blockout to its final release. The levels focus is on escaping after being accused of being the mole, which mixes combat with puzzle gameplay including environmental traversal in order to progress and complete the level.

One of the features I enjoyed most about this level was having the initial section in an enclosed space with limited options, then gaining access to the street outside which opens the level up for exploring without being too overwhelming.

This is another section I took over part way through its development. My role on this level mainly focused on the gameplay at the end of the level in order to take it to its completed state. I also looked after this level through its polish phase and fixed any reported bugs found throughout the level.

This levels toughest challenge was setting up the cameras through tight spaces, such as through the skellington to progress into the levels second area.

Hub Puzzles and additional work

I also worked on several hub puzzles, created several assets used throughout the hub and took over a few other levels over the course of the project, below are a few examples of the additional work on this project.

Some of the more notable puzzles that can be seen below include:

  • Fantastic Beasts Story Pack - Goldstein Clean interior, various hub puzzles

  • Mission Impossible Level Pack - Various hub puzzles

  • Goonies Level Pack - Inferno ship interior, various hub puzzles
